Please list what's your top 10 things that people should know about Thrawn according to you that is vital to getting to know this blue daddy of a man.
oooh oh la la this is an interesting one! my book knowledge is a bit rusty but I'll try my best (if I get anything wrong then these are my headcanons lol)
Generally not very expressive. he does show emotion but it's always very subtle and a lot of times feels involuntary. He's the type to internalize rather than show.
Very specific love language. Thrawn seems to express his love by very specific means. it's not the usual smiles, hugs and confessions, rather he tries to improve the lives of the people he loves. he mentors, he protects, he encourages. the journal he left Eli, teaching Che'ri to fly, fighting to build a better future for his people. it's not the first thing people think of but it's there
How he shows anger. this one is pretty specific but I felt I needed to include it. hissing and becoming physical like in Rebels? nah. going all stiff and frosty? it's in the books and feels much more like him imo
Not that clueless. Thrawn straddles a fine line here, he's clueless about some things but never completely. he misses nuances, implications, social cues but he also uses sarcasm and irony and can lie and pretend to achieve his goals
Notable lack of arrogance. He's overconfident but not arrogant. if he's telling his enemies he outclasses them it's a matter-of-fact statement, something he perceives as a fact not something he's gloating with. he's disappointed by others' inability to keep up but doesn't look down on them
Tendency to get carried away. stubborn to the point of recklessness when he sets his mind on something. it's my personal headcanon that he long had a feeling his plans for the Empire were falling apart but latched on to the idea just so his efforts wouldn't be in vain
Disciplined and a workaholic. he's a very good fit for the military in that regard
Inspires very strong feelings in the people around him, you either hate him or love him
Insane emotional endurance like holy shit
Some abandonment trauma there, he's too quick to let his loved ones go and we all know about Borika
I think these are the first ones that come to mind, putting them together was fun. I can talk more about them but I feel like I won't be able to stop once I start
but if anyone wants to discuss...

OCs Art
Finally got done and finished my sketches of my OC and her and Thrawns kids! I never really post my drawings but I was super proud of these! Here's some backstory on each of my characters! Let me know if y’all would be interested in more drawings or more about my OCs!
Thrayn is the one in the red cloak. He and Thrass are twins. He is the oldest of all the siblings but he is smaller than Thrass. He is slim and tall but still athletic though he hates fighting. Thrayn is more of a diplomat like his mother. Thrayn is a crazy genius but he lacks drive. He purposely chose not to go into the military despite his intelligence. He butts heads a lot with his father and they could not be more different personality-wise. Thrayn is a momma’s boy as she is who usually helps calm the waters when Thrayn and Thrawn fight. He is a sweetheart who does try to stay out of trouble but it finds him. He is closest with his Uncle Eli as Eli raised the twins in their first couple of years. Thrayn almost sees Eli more as a dad than Thrawn and doesn’t feel like he fits in with the family.
Tumblr media
Thrass is a spitting image of Thrawn. He is the most serious out of the siblings and is constantly getting Thryan and Thaera out of trouble. Thrass is the youngest of the twins but he is a pretty big boy compared to his brother. He has broad shoulders and a stocky tall build. He isn’t as smart as Thrayn and Thaera and it frustrates him. He is close with both his parents but he does sometimes resent his mom for being human. Sometimes he is embarrassed to be only half Chiss. Is a bit of a hot head though his father works with him on it. Not as smart as his Dad but still a very skilled tactician. He worries a lot about not living up to the legend that is his father.
Tumblr media
Thaera is the wild child and the youngest. She is a spitting image of her mother just in Chiss form. Huge daddy’s girl as Thrawn always wanted a mini version of Maya. Thaera is a mini version of her mother’s personality too which means she and her mother buttheads a lot. Maya doesn’t like how much Thrawn lets Thaera get away with stuff. Thaera loves making art which is another reason she and her dad are close. Thaera doesn’t want to go into the military or politics cause she sees the evil in both. If she can she wants to be an artist. Both her parents are supportive of her dreams. She is sassy and loves pranking her brothers much to their dismay. She also has her big brothers wrapped around her finger. She is good at manipulating people to get what she wants.
Tumblr media
Maya: She and Thrawn met when Eli and Thrawn were at the Imperial Academy. Maya was staying with her Uncle Yularen who had taken her in after he met her during an ISB mission. He offered her a new life if she promised to help him during the mission. Maya was a street rat on her home planet and had a dark past. She is politically smart as she had to survive the streets and she learned a lot about politics while living in the upper class of Coruscant. She met Thrawn and Eli when she surprisingly beat their team during a capture-the-flag simulation. Maya had found a way around the rules and Thrawn was not very happy about it. Kinda of a rivals-to-lovers trope. Maya was a jokester and pranker and Thrawn at first hated how unserious she was though that became the thing he loved most about her. Maya and Eli became friends very fast once all of them were on the same team for a simulation. Maya became the political ally Thrawn needed as many in the upper society liked her. Maya was a combat officer until an accident happened and she had to medically retire. She and Thrawn eventually got married in secret and Eli officiated the ceremony. Maya found out she was pregnant right around the time Eli was sent to the Ascendancy and she was sent with him much to her dismay. Thrawn was worried about what the Emperor would do if he found out about Maya and their future kid(s). When Maya joined the ascendancy she tried to join house Mitth as technically it was her right to do so by marriage. She met Thurfian who didn’t like her at first 1. Cause she was human and 2. She was Thrawns wife. He was impressed however by her political skills and offered her a deal. She and her kids would be a part of the Mitth household if she were to live at the Mitth household and be his political advisor. She rises quickly and becomes Thurfian’s closest advisor (he still hates Thrawn tho lol). Maya would give birth to the twin boys with the help of Eli who supported her through the entire birth. Eli helped Maya raise the boys which is why Thrayn is a mini Eli honestly. The boys came out looking full Chiss which made Thurfian happy. Thrawn wouldn’t see the boys until 4 years after they were born. It caused some problems with him and Maya that he was gone for so long but they made up and that’s how Thaera was born.

More of my pieces from the Thrawngirlies Ascendancy week event. Some of Thrawn's 'families' through the ages. OCs from the Empire of the Hand days, apparently he had family and adopted family during that period, both in canon and legends, though canon Thrawn had his enforced holiday on Peridia. The Imperial team and of course his original mob in the novels, the Mitth.

Starflash.
[ID: A digital drawing of Grand Admiral Thrawn, drawn in his Imperial uniform with the addition of the Legends epaulets. He is standing with his shoulder facing the viewer, angled slightly away so that part of his back is visible. His face, however, is facing the viewer, and looking two thirds to the right. His expression is on the line between calm and mournful. Ringing his head is the Mitth family crest, and a bright bright Orange sunburst rings his head. End ID]

Theseus
My fingers lowered the brown volume in my hand as the heavy wooden door opened. As words were said, a flurry of burgundy and gold robes entered the room. The man who entered was a stout, round man, no older than fifty, with graying blue-black hair and kind eyes. He was shorter than me, but I was an expectation in most cases for Chiss as my father was abnormally tall for a Chiss.
I shared no resemblance with the man walking into the room; only in title and name did we share family. But he was the man who raised me, nurtured my entire career, and stood by me when no one else would. My uncle, Speaker Mitth’rassafis, was not just any man but the second most powerful man in the Mitth family, next to the Patriarch. And he was apparently in a mood this morning.
“Get your feet off that couch,” the man’s voice said as I lowered my feet off the velvet armrest of the expensive couch I had been lounging on. “That was a gift from the late Patriarch, and I don’t need whatever you’ve tracked in on it.” I sat up and laid my book beside me, a thin smile peaking on my lips as he moved over to the large wooden desk in the center of the stately room.
“My apologies, uncle,” I stood and straightened out my uniform tunic before making my way over to his desk. “Can I ask why I am here?” My uncle looked up at me for a moment before motioning for me to sit in one of the plush chairs.
“Can I not check up on my favorite nephew?” he said, still reading his questis.
“I am your only nephew, uncle,” Thrass chuckled and sat back in his chair, now meeting my gaze. Often, when around my uncle, I would catch him watching me with a fond smile, like he was remembering something from my childhood or even a time before that. Usually, it was fleeting, and he would look away before I raised any question, but today, this was different.
It had been two years since I had seen my uncle face-to-face. We chatted via comm occasionally, but I had spent my last two years on rotation aboard a patrol cruiser that kept me away deep in the Chaos. “Is something wrong, uncle?” I asked, raising my brow at him in concern.
“You are, without a doubt, your mother’s son,” he said softly. I shrugged and leaned back in the chair. “But sitting here now, in that uniform, I see your father more.” I grimaced as the words fell out of his mouth. My uncle knew my annoyance with anyone who referred to me as an extension of my father.
The Great Mitth’raw’nuruodo.
Everywhere I went in the fleet, I was compared to or held in his shadow. He was a legend in the fleet, and most assumed I would follow. For the most part I had, and then some. Though where my father failed, I succeeded thanks to my uncle’s teachings, and my career showed. I hated it, though.
I hated hearing them speak so fondly of a man that I just decided to abandon my mother with two young children and a family that hated her entire existence. In my eyes, he was weak and a coward, only concerned with his selfish wants or needs.
In his absence, I stepped up and took care of my mother, trying to mend her broken heart and spirit while making sure my sister stayed in line. Uncle had tried his best to open his home to us, but Mamma was never the same after he left. She was broken, and our family fell apart.
I rarely saw my mother these days unless she needed me to find my sister or we met in a meeting. Each time I saw her, though, a piece of me broke for the woman. She was exhausted, her eyes dull and lost of their icy hue, and a piece of her youthful face seemed to age with time and separation.
Watching her go through this made me never want to partake in that type of bonding. Ever.
“Is there a point to this, uncle?” my voice was measured and calm, even though I could feel the simmer of anger starting. Those dark threads were waking and calling out softly for me to connect with them. Thrass nodded and slid the questis he had been reading over to me. I took the device and read the soft, delicate Cheunh script on the document.
I felt my throat dry and my stomach harden at the sight of the words. Senior Commander Theseus will be taking over the heavy cruiser Myrmidon after the retirement of Admiral Is’la. My eyes looked up at my uncle confused and surprised. A proud smile was on the man’s face.
“I don’t think I’ve ever seen you shocked or speechless before,” I blinked a few times and looked back down at the document before reading it once again. My eyes still could not believe what I was reading.
“I was not expecting to get a command, let alone a heavy cruiser at that.”
“They wanted to give you a whole picket force, but the General and I thought we would start small, just to see how you would do.” A whole picket force? I knew the Defense fleet was hurting for officers but I hardly deserved a heavy cruiser, let alone a whole task force to run.
“I’m honored, but why are you telling me and not General Ba’kif?”
“Because they have not announced it yet,” he paused, a mischievous smile rising on his lips. “And I wanted to see if you really could be shocked.” A chuckle escaped my lips as I shook my head. “Come I am going on my lunch, let’s go celebrate. I know your mother and sister are in, so I’ve asked them to meet us down at the cafe we always go to.” My uncle stood and motioned for me as well. I stood, and the man patted my shoulder before we started our way toward the door. “And on our way, you can tell me all about Illaria.”
The cafe was as busy as it usually was around this time, with all the aides, Syndics, and Aristocra taking their lunches. Mamma sat at an outdoor table with my sister next to her, her iridescent white hair shimmering in the dim light of the sun. She was out of uniform and in her usual civilian attire of a white linen blouse and burgundy trousers. Her icy eyes were looking at her questis, shifting side to side, no doubt still working even when she was on leave. Mamma looked a little more vibrant than usual; she seemed happier. Her glow and threads were a little stronger than usual.
My sister, Yr’a, on the other hand, sat back in the chair, comm in her face as she was no doubtably messaging someone. Yr’a looked exactly like him in every way except for her creamy pale skin, though when she was flushed, you could see the purple undertone she had. But everything else was almost a mirror of our father. The high cheekbones, strong nose, but full lips. Her eyes were even similar to his if you caught her in just the right amount of light. She was tall, slender, and like our mother in personality.
The two may not look similar, but they acted like each other.
And boy, did it give me a headache.
Mamma and Yr’a were beautiful and fiery like every Hakone woman was; they drew people to them. But Mamma was on a different level than Yr’a; she was slippery like the serpent she emanated. A feature no one let me forget that I had as well. Mamma was never one to cross when it came to us, my uncle, or the man who abandoned us. She would sink her teeth into anyone who tried to. I admired that about her. But it made her so intense and problematic at times. She would cross a line, and uncle would have to pull her out.
She picked her head up and gave us a huge smile as she stood to greet us; Yr’a did not even as much put her comm down to acknowledge our presence. “Theseus,” Mamma said as she moved to envelop me tight. “It’s so good to see you.” I wrapped my arms around her and took in her fiery, earthy scent as she held me tighter than normal. She pulled back and placed her hands on my cheeks, her eyes hazing slightly as I felt the sweet trickle of my mother’s threads search my own. “You seem so happy, liten krigrare,”
“Thanks, Mamma,” I said before she turned and enveloped my uncle in a tight hug. She switched back to the Cheunh language to speak with him, as we had been speaking in her native language. I took a seat next to Yr’a and peered over her shoulder to see she was talking to Ie’na, a fellow sky-walker, someone I did not recognize, labeled as Ivant and Sadzia.
My stomach crawled at the sight of the name. That soft cobalt thread that pulsed and pulled at the mere mention of her name rose. It caused my face to prickle and my heart to twist.
Sadzia. My sister’s best friend since birth had been something of a sore subject for me. Ever since puberty hit me at thirteen, that cobalt thread showed and pulled for me to connect it with hers.
She was beautiful, sweet, and far too innocent for a man like me.
But she was it.
Mamma had described her as my älskare or my mate, set by the Goddess, and only for me when I brought up the confusing turn of events as a sixteen-year-old when I kissed her. But she never wanted me, and the feeling was mutual, even though it hurt like hell to shove the feeling away.
So I avoided her and my sister like the plague to get relief from the singing thread. I fucked other women but never dated as the feeling felt wrong. That was until Illaria.
We met during a promotion party and went from there. I enjoyed her company, and she satisfied me in bed, but she would never be Sadzia. I would never love Illaria like I loved Sadzia. I knew Illaria sensed my hesitation to put a label on us, even though I knew she wanted so much more from me.
Stringing her along was wrong, and I knew that, but I knew the strategic value of dating a blood member of a ruling family. I knew it helped that her father was a retired Senior Captain with pull and leverage in the fleet, while her mother was a Syndic for military affairs. She was good for me, my image, and my position in the fleet. It probably had been why they were so keen to give me a picket force.
“You do know snooping is illegal, bror?” Yr’a’s voice cut through my mind, causing me to look her in the eyes.
“And you do know anything you say can be held against you or looked at by higher military officials.” I raised my brow at her. She rolled her eyes. “What are you scheming about now?” I asked, looking over at Mamma and Thrass briefly before back at my sister. Yr’a’s face flushed.
“Nothing,” she said, returning to messaging the group of people. Which meant she was planning on sneaking away from Mamma to run off with Ie’na and Sadzia. “Don’t get your panties all in a twist; my big bror won’t have to come find me.” She said mockingly as I glared down at her—the amount of late-night calls from my mother about where my sister was always got old. I would then rescue her from whatever she had gotten into before any harm or foul could happen. “I’m not going to ruin your fuck session again with Illaria if that’s what you’re worried about.”
My eyes narrowed at her as a smile peaked across her lips briefly. She was teasing me now. My lillsyster was teasing me. It was one time. One time when, she had rung, sobbing because she lost her credit chit and her comm, only not to be able to get home. I, on the other hand, had been in the middle of fucking Illaria, and Yr’a had never let me live it down.
“That’s not what I’m worried about,” I said through my teeth. “I’m worried about you and—” Yr’a’s head turned, and she blinked a few times, surprised as sudden realization hit her.
“This isn’t about me,” she mused with that teasing smile. “It’s about Zia,” Yr’a sat up and giggled at me, setting her comm down as I leaned back in my chair. “You saw her name and—”
“Watch it,” I growled at her. She put her hands up in surrender before a mischievous smile crossed her lips.
“Ladislas is going to be there,” I kept my face quiet, but I was seething inside. That pompous ass always had something to say about her whenever he came back from leave. I tolerated him cause he had been Khaalis’s and I’s closest friend since our academy days. But he had crossed a line going after Sadzia, an invisible line that even Khaalis knew never to cross, but Ladislas had, and it caused my darkness to creep in. “Jeez, I wasn’t trying to piss you off,” Yr’a said, probably commenting on my darkened irises and rigid posture.
“I’ll go, but only cause it keeps Mamma happy that I’m watching.” Yr’a’s face lit up as she scooped up her comm and returned to messaging. “But,” I stopped her. “Illaria and I have dinner with her family tonight, so it has to be later than usual.”
“Of course,” Yr’a’s fingers swept across the screen as my mother cleared her throat. I turned to look at her and my uncle. Both had smiles on their faces. Mamma spoke up first, thus ending my and Yr’a’s conversation.
And thus also ending my thoughts about murdering Ladislas.

I have a vision,
And it will probably never be realized.
Taking from Legends, Nuruodo is a family name. In this case it defines what we as humans think of, instead of a political family. A surname.
There is a planet near the Ascendancy, so close some would mistake it for being a part of it. Our world, Earth. During this time, it "discovered" by the Chiss and recognized as a colony.
Humans are as we know them, no remarkable traits, but with key differences from the Star Wars humans. They're thought to be cousins genetically.
The humans begin to integrate into Chiss society, though many are unhappy about it. The story focuses around the humans fight to be recognized as equals by the chiss. And their victory.
It also examines the joys and hardships of a interspecies marriage between a chiss and a human. And their eventual success.
I have one scene playing on repeat in my head:
It has been decades since humans first began the fight for equality, and progress has been made. The MC and her husband stand on a balcony in the Aristocra's Hall, with their three children behind them. All clothed in burgundy red.
An usher announces every being who enters the room. They are there to witness the induction of new merit adoptives into the Family. His loud and clear voice reads over their names on the list.
"Presenting, of the house Nuruodo, honored by the Great Family of Stybla,
"Raw'nuruodo, Grand Admiral of the Empire, Agent of the Acendancy.
"(Y/N) Nuru, Syndic of the Ruling Family of Mitth.
"Their sons, Mitth'icra'nuru, cousin of the Family, Junior Commander of the Chiss Expansionary Defence Fleet. And Mitth'ras'nuru, cousin of the Family.
"Their daughter, Mitth'aia'nuru, cousin of the Family, Lieutenant of the Chiss Expansionary Defence Fleet."
*Thrawn was sent to the Empire for 8 years, he was rewelcomed into the Acendancy as an Agent and retained his rank of Grand Admiral, it is a complicated ordeal. His wife, is Syndic Prime of the Mitth, and combined chiss and human tradition for her name. Thicran is their eldest son, and an officer of the CEDF. His sister Thaian, is three years younger and followed his footsteps to become an officer. Their youngest brother Thrasn, was named after their uncle, he was born ten years after his sister and is not of age at the events of the scene.

Can you tell me more about Dawn?
I CAN ALWAYS TELL YOU MORE ABOUT DAWN
(vibrating intensely) pls send more asks if there's anything specific you want to know but...
some basics? Did I ever do this on this blog?
first off, there are two "versions" of Dawn, the original way I wrote him and am playing him in the Pen and Paper... and the version I did for playing him in bg3, lovingly dubbed DNDawn by my DM.
A few facts about OG!Dawn:
he's a Chiss sky-walker who retired (read: lost his connection to the Force) at 17, which is pretty late for a Chiss but still pretty traumatizing. He spent the months leading up to retirement trying to stop the loss of his Sight or at least trying to find a way to be useful in other ways, but he still had to leave eventually
right before that, he met the human sent to the chiss ascendancy (Eli Vanto), which inspired a conversation about a life outside of the ascendancy. Vibes wise, I was going for a parallel of that conversation between Thrawn and Thalias in Chaos Rising!
anyway, Dawn didn't leave immediately after retiring, though. He went to an academy for a few years, where he had a roommate that he suspects might have been a sky-walker too but they never actually talked about it. Her fate is uncertain too but she probably died shortly before graduation. Dawn actually got a degree from that academy, which he never mentions and does not care about in the slightest
once he had his degree, he got a tattoo done (on his back, a star constellation only seen from Csilla), chose the new name Dawn so that lesser space inhabitants can properly address him, and fucked off to meet an Imperial contact Eli gave him
it turned out pretty quickly that Dawn was not Empire material, and he didn't care for it either, but this information is important because it shows that his first contact with the Empire was neutral (+ knowing that Thrawn ended up working with them also helped shape Dawn's opinion of that regime). This opinion changed later, of course, but it's important that he didn't immediately hate the Empire or distrust its members
and this is how he eventually ended up with the torment crew! yey! and that's when the campaign started and....... well. shit happened.
he's also trans (most, if not all, sky-walkers are girls, but he never really vibed with that) and very, very gay.
dawn gets to use a mechanic that i lovingly refer to as the "autism dice" where sometimes my DM makes me roll in conversations with other crew members to see if dawn notices the deeper meaning/sarcasm in other character's words (most of the time I didn't notice it either, and if I fail, he's not explaining it to me either, Dawn & I just have to live with it. rude (jk jk, I agreed to this))
my favorite thing about Dawn is how he views himself as a tool but sometimes (very, VERY rarely, and ESPECIALLY when he's tired/not thinking straight) slips into this mindset of "excuse me, do you know who you are talking to??". no matter how alienated he feels from other chiss, he is one, and maybe those legends about chiss not reacting well to being betrayed are true after all.
since sky-walkers get their memory purged to avoid any unnecessary feelings/homesickness, Dawn does not remember his childhood or family. It also means he has no idea of his original family name. He has a twin sister but will very likely never learn that or meet her. After his service as a sky-walker, he got adopted into the Irizi family, hence his name.
Dawn has very strong feelings about being compared to Thrawn, mostly about the fact that he's a Mitth and how dare people compare him to a Mitth??
the thing I struggled with the most when creating him and playing him in early sessions was his moral alignment. He was pretty much a blank slate, due to the memory purging and being used as a military child weapon most of his life... so this didn't make it any easier. By now, I have his alignment and loyals figured out though! It's more complex than I first expected, and the fun bit is that he is now very torn between wanting to do what's best for the crew and the connection he's feeling towards the guy speaking to him through the sith holocron, mostly because he is grysk (and therefore, from the same region as Dawn AND his mortal enemy but you know what, we can excuse that as long as we get homoeroticism and narrative foils)
dawnkallig. my beloved. i should write another essay on my pnp side blog
ANYWAY this got long. Tell me if I should talk more about the DNDawn version (who shows up in my bg3 fanfics)...... or if you have any more random questions about my boy!

thalias and samakro eventually get married and adopt che'ri. samakro loves taking them to places like beaches and amusement parks. they get to experience all of it as a family
thalias eventually becomes mitth patriarch
many years after her infamous brother's exile, borika opens her door to a brown-haired, brown-skinned alien man standing on her porch who has been sent by admiral ar'alani to assist her with sky-walker research
there is a waffle bar on the springhawk
speaking of the springhawk, eli'van'to becomes its captain one day
samakro secretly loves baking
thurfian and zistalmu break up and make up approximately 10 times a year
uingali and the paccosh keep close but unofficial communications with the CEDF, exchanging intel and aiding one another in battles
after thrawn's exile, those who fought alongside him carry on his legacy and he eventually becomes a legend in the fleet. as the grysk threat continues and civil war looms closer, an underground resistance forms in the chiss military: a mix of the old officers who knew thrawn personally, and new officers who have heard the stories and revere his name and his legacy
chiss sleep in communal nests. it's not uncommon to find the entire springhawk bridge crew in a giant cozy cuddle pile
chiss ships are all about efficiency, but the chiss also understand that comfort is a key component of it. as a result, their ships are very pleasant to be on
ar'alani and roscu are exes
there's a picture of thrawn and thrass on the wall in the cafe that they saved from those robbers that one time
borika is really into fishing
neither of the kivu siblings can cook to save their lives

Hi @rosheendubh, saw you had tagged me in this post (although I guess no longer) but happy to attempt an answer...and flattered that I am among the “experts” on Thrawn, although I do confess to not following his Ascendancy-era persona with the same enthusiasm as his Legends or 2017 characterization.
As one of the replies to your post have noted, the most obvious loss that is referred to in the book is that of his sister, Borika.  In Chaos Rising, he has the following exchange with Aralani:
“I had an older sister. She was five when she disappeared. My parents would never tell me where she went." "How old were you?" "Three. For a long time I assumed she'd died, and that I would never see her again. It wasn't until I reached bridge officer rank that I was finally told about the sky-walkers, and realized what must have happened to her. And I'll still never see her again.“
I doubt Thrawn would allow himself to dwell on this loss too much, which makes the interaction here with Thrass a bit dramatic.  Perhaps Zahn’s intention is to show his hero is not immune to heartache, but I would imagine ultimately in service of the Chiss, Thrawn would recognize the practical contribution of his sister’s assignment to the skywalkers (and then reassignment to another family).  He himself left his biological family (the Kivu) behind to become adopted by the Mitth, and that could also be another source of his sense of understanding loss, if not exactly regret.
I hope that’s helpful!  Sending 💙and handsome Chiss vibes your way.
Appealing to Thrawn/BlueManHot society: what is this exchange hinting at in younger Thrawn’s background, which causes him a moment of pain, whilst he chats with bro’Thrass…??
“I can understand that,” Thrawn said. “An artist of such skill and self-awareness might well have seen how the scars of memory had affected her inspiration and resolved to put her artwork aside until she could regain her former tranquility.”
Thrass winced. “Only she never did,” he murmured.
“No,” Thrawn said softly. “Some losses run too deep to ever fully heal.”
Thrass studied his face, noting the fresh tension lines in his cheeks and throat. “You sound like you’ve had experience.”
Thrawn shrugged slightly. “No more than many others in the Ascendancy have suffered,” he said, the tension lines smoothing out.
Though it took a conscious effort, Thrass saw. Whatever pain was lurking behind those eyes, it wasn’t going away anytime soon.
But that sort of ache wasn’t for public display. It certainly wasn’t for a new acquaintance to casually poke at. If life had taught Thrass anything, it was to respect others’ privacy. “I’m sorry to hear that,” he said, gesturing toward the door. “Perhaps a discussion for another day. Let me show you to your room. Dinner’s in three hours, and you may want to practice your part of the ceremony.”

I can finally share my contribution for the Thrawn: Of Mitths and Legends zine. ^^ The leftover sales are currently happening so this is your last chance to get the zine or the cool Thrawn merchandise if you missed them earlier. But the supplies are very limited! thrawnzine.gumroad.com/ There is some symbolism to the elements you see here and their placing, and a number of small easter eggs for the fans who are familiar with those, but rather than pointing them out I'll let you interpret it the way you see it.

fandom question: if Thrawn were to go back to the Ascendancy, how do you think he would be received? barring the obvious, would it cause much of an uproar?
A difficult one, it would depend on the circumstances of his return. He had been gone for a long time and a lot of the people who he dealt with would either be dead or moved on. If he went straight back there would be some people who would complain, the Mitth were not the force they were, but if he did like in the Legends verse, set up his own mini empire allied with the ascendancy made up of people who were not completely allied with them and survivors from the empire etc he could liase with them from there. He could deal with them on his terms.
